AR Project Summary

My action research project has been going extremely well up to this point. I have been moving through my action steps well.  I will go through the steps that I have completed and am currently working on. First, I discussed a possible action research topic with my site supervisor, and he was supportive of me finding a topic that would be of beneficial to both the school and myself. Second, I decided that my action research project would consistent of building up the Response to Intervention (RTI) program at our school that had little presence on campus. Third, I set down and explained my action research project to my site supervisor and counselor they were both excited because they had decided earlier in the summer that they were looking to focus on the RTI program for the upcoming school year. Fourth, I sat down with my counselor and RTI teachers to analyze the RTI process. This was a productive meeting that left everyone feeling positive about the direction of the program. Fifth, during our staff development I present the program to our faculty and received positive feedback from other teachers. I was pleased with the teacher-buy in regard the program. Sixth, the school counselor, RTI teachers and myself decided that retention students would automatically start off in the program. The idea is we will get theses students to start the school year off strong and to help them from the beginning rather than later. Seventh, we sent out a letter to parents informing them that their child was being placed in the RTI program and a time and date to meet to discuss the program with them. The next three action steps are continuously on going. Eighth, we have currently met with four parents regarding their child’s placement in the RTI program and theses meetings have been positive, and the parents are excited about the program.  Ninth, we began the RTI program about two weeks after the start of school. Finally, we are using differentiated instruction based on the needs of the individual student that were discussed in the meeting with the child’s parents. 

Web Reflection

I was not able to attend the web conference but did listen to the 4th week recording on Saturday, September 22, 2012.  I have participated in previous web conferences held by my field supervisor during the last month.  During this particular  web conference many questions were asked about what needed to be submitted to TK20 during week 4 of the course. Dr. Abernathy stated that the week 4 School Community Plan/Proposal was the only thing that needed to be submitted. There were also questions regarding the web conference reflection and where it should be submitted. Dr Abernathy stated that the link to the web conference reflection should be submitted at the end of  the week 5 assignment. I plan on attending more web conferences in the future. They are extremely beneficial to all students because they allow for the opportunity to gain a better understanding of present assignments and future assignments.
